Improving the continuity of patient care through novel teaching and learning facilities for handover procedures in medical higher education

The World Health Organization lists inaccurate handovers as one of its High 5 patient safety risks. PATIENT will address this challenge by using innovative learning approaches with mobile devices in medical simulations to enable authentic skill development for the workplace.

Improperly conducted handovers lead to
wrong treatment, delays in medical  diagnosis,
life threatening adverse events, increased
health care expenditure, increased hospital
lengthof stay and a range of other effects
that impact on the health system.
